The world’s largest funfair is always held in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. You may have already heard of it, but it is a two week and two day long folk festival running from late September all until October. The festival is one of the world’s largest, having more than 6 million people from around the world attend every single year. So what is there to do at his fantastic and popular event?
To understand that, the history of this fantastic festival must be known. Crown Prince Ludwig, on his wedding day with Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen hosted a giant festival to celebrate in 1810. The festival included horse racing, which continued as an annual event knows as Oktoberfest. After this, the event grew and grew, having many more attractions and included drinking at the events as more people attended.
Today, the concept of the “quiet Oktoberfest” was invested in 2005, and appealed to the younger, child audience that usually attend with their parents. Music can be heard and is played a lot from the tents of Oktoberfest, and there are even tents that do not tolerate smoking. To this day, Oktoberfest has been a huge success, and in 2013 alone, 6.4 million people have attended, and the festival has serves a tremendous amount of alcohol- 6.7 million litres of beer.
With all of this there must be some garbage right? Well the city of Munich along with the sponsors clean the trash and wash down the area each morning, but in total the amount of trash accumulated each year is 1,000 tons.
