Found in France, Gorges du Verdon (also known as Verdon Gorge) is home to a river and is also known as one of Europe’s most beautiful canyons. Measuring approximately 25 km long and at the deepest 700 m, the crystal clear blue water of the river makes it a popular tourist sight. One look at it will have you thinking that you’ve travelled off to the Caribbean once you take a look at the beautiful turquoise blue waters.
Not only can you drive up to and around the rim to view the whole canyon in its entirety, but you can go down into the canyon by renting out your own kayak. If neither of these options seem like something you’d be interested in, you can also rick climb alongthe limestone walls or take a nice hike through the mountainous range. If multi-pitch climbing is something that you’re interested in, then you should probably attempt to scale Gorges du Verdon. It’s known as a fantastic place to go for that and has over 1500 different routes that include pillars, endless walls, and cracks. Not only is this method of climbing creative, but it can become very technical relying heavily on your past practice to help you out. You can climb anywhere from 20 m up to 400 m. So anyone between novices and advanced climbers can even get a fun time out of this climb.
What option of exploration would you go for when touring this canyon? Are you more of a drive-by observer, or do you enjoy the interactive activities instead? Or perhaps you just like to get deep into it and scale all of the walls.
